Holley Tyng
Head Coach
Holley Tyng enters her eighth year as Head Coach of the Colby College Women's Ice Hockey program in the 2023-24 academic year.
Since arriving in Waterville Colby Women’s Hockey has seen steady improvement under Tyng’s leadership highlighted by back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Tyng has recruited and coached two All-Americans, numerous All-NESCAC team members, a NESCAC Rookie of the Year and two players who have represented their countries at various U18 and Senior World Championships. During the 2019-20 season Tyng was named NESCAC Coach of the Year.
In addition to her duties at Colby, Tyng has worked extensively with USA Hockey in various roles. In June of 2022 Tyng won a silver medal with Team USA’s U18 team while serving as team scout. In an ongoing role Tyng serves as a regional scout for USA Hockey’s Select camps and recently coached the USA U22 Development team to three wins over Canada in the 2023 summer mini-series.
Prior to Colby, Tyng spent 11 years at Dartmouth serving as an assistant coach before being promoted to associate head coach in 2011. She was part of four NCAA tourney appearances, two ECAC Hockey Tournament titles, an Ivy League championship, and an ECAC Hockey regular season title.
Tyng began her coaching career at Tabor Academy, her alma mater, posting a 23-10-5 record over two years.
Captain during her senior year as a student at Providence College, Tyng was a three-time ECAC All-Academic Team selection. She earned the Paul Connelly Award for distinguished sportsmanship, courage, and honor in May 2001.
Seamus Galligan
Assistant Coach
Seamus Galligan joined the Colby Women's Hockey staff in the fall of 2022.
Galligan comes to Colby after serving as the 2020-21 Director of Hockey Operations for Brown University, a season which saw the Bears notch its most wins and highest conference finish in a decade. Prior to Brown, Galligan spent several seasons serving as an Assistant Coach for the Tabor Academy Men's Varsity program where he worked with the forwards and aided in recruiting efforts, video analysis, and practice design.
An alumni of Union College, Galligan spent 3 subsequent years playing professionally in the ECHL and UHL.
McKinley Karpa
Assistant Coach
McKinley Karpa graduated from Colby College in Spring of 2023 after playing an integral part in the success of the women’s hockey over her four years. By the end of her five year career, McKinley played in a total of 80 games for the mules and totaled 30 goals and 31 assists for 61 points, and tallied an impressive 72 penalty minutes. McKinley helped lead the team to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2021 and again in 2022.
As a student, she majored in Science, Technology, and Society with an Environmental Science minor. McKinley has lived by the Women’s Hockey values both on and off the ice where the values of grit and growth can be seen in her passion for organic farming.
This is her first season coaching where she works with the forwards and the penalty kill. Alongside coaches Holley Tyng and Seamus Galligan, she hopes to bring Colby Women’s Ice Hockey to the NESCAC championship.
